A little bit coastal, a little bit bohemian… it’s Coastal Boho… and it’s got you double tapping like a crazy woman and dreaming of sipping an iced tea from your hanging chair. The casual and effortless aesthetic brings a calm and relaxed feeling to a space. Follow the tips below to create your chilled-out space and every day will feel like a holiday!
1. Start with Colour.
The coastal boho colour palette is airy, neutral and muted.… think white, beige and taupe with a dash of colour. Blue is always going to work in this style, because… ocean. But you can also add in a dash of other muted colours, like the dusty pink seen in the gorgeous palm velvet cushions (10). Your biggest pop of colour is likely to come from an indoor plant (or 10… in some woven baskets (5) of course). If you’re leaning more towards the ‘boho’ in beachy boho, you might want to add in a statement piece like a boho rug or statement cushions in some bright boho colours, like orange, pink, teal or purple.
2. Add Texture.
Because the colour palette is subdued, you are relying on texture to give some interest to your space. Be inspired by the outdoors and nature and look for anything raw and natural looking… linen, cane, rattan, jute, raw timber, woven leather and wicker all tick the box here. Try the jute and recycled denim rug (4) or the amazing white wash rattan mirror (3) to really ramp up the texture. Macrame wall hangings (2) and juju hats are also super popular in this style. Up the boho vibe by finding handmade, ‘one of a kind’ décor items like ceramics or vases.
3. Give it Some Personality.
Shells collected by your kids, bits of driftwood from your favourite beach, photos of family holidays. Vintage pieces, a unique market purchase, pieces you picked up during your travels. These are the pieces that take a space from ‘a house’ to ‘my home’. They give your home personality and make you feel a personal connection to the space. So, go ahead and dig out your kid’s shell collection to display in a jar and throw a family snap into a frame (try the carved timber frame (6)). You’ll be well on the way to creating your very own personalised coastal boho retreat.
Create your own Coastal Boho Paradise
If you’d like to feel the relaxed and calming vibe of a coastal boho home, but the thought of making all those decisions yourself is actually stressing you out… I’d love to help you out. In my eDecoration package, I’ll create a moodboard of ideas to get us rolling and ensure we’re on the right track. Once approved I’ll continue to create a selection board, just like the one above. This can incorporate anything you need help with from furniture, lighting, window coverings, flooring options, colour schemes and more. We’ll collaborate throughout to make sure everything is 100% right for your unique lifestyle, space and personal taste. When your selection board is just right, I’ll send through your final copy along with a personalised shopping list and styling guide. Online consulting means I can help you transform your home no matter where you are in Australia. The entire process takes place online… heck you can do it from your bed in your pyjamas… how’s that for relaxed!
